Peanut Butter Piggy Bank

This piggy bank is easy for little hands to get in and out of. The smaller size means it will get full faster too.

Bank pig - peanut butter piggy bankYOU’LL NEED

  • Peanut butter jar
  • Craft foam
  • Juice bottle cap
  • Tissue paper
  • 4 corks
  • Pipe cleaner
  • White glue
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Permanent marker

Instructions

  1. Wash the peanut butter jar (by hand, many are not dishwasher safe).
  2. Carefully cut a slit in the top of the jar big enough to fit any size coin.
  3. Cover the lid of the jar in craft foam. (Pink looks most like a pig, but any colour will do.)
  4. Using a glue gun, create a snout by sticking the bottle cap on the lid. Draw on some nostrils with a permanent marker. (If your juice lid has ink on it from the grocery store, nail polish remover works like a charm.)
  5. Cut eyes from craft foam and glue them above the nose (white glue works here for little hands). Draw on pupils.
  6. To make ears, cut a triangle of craft foam and a slit on the bottom of the triangle. Fold the sides over so you have a cone-shaped ear. Round the top corner of the triangle to make it look more like an ear. Glue together with the glue gun and then glue on the lid.
  7. Screw the lid back on. Using the glue gun, stick the cork legs on so that the pig is balanced and stands up properly.
  8. Cut tissue paper into strips and squares. Pour some white glue into a small container and stir in roughly equal parts water. With a paint brush, apply some white glue to the jar. Place tissue paper over the glue and brush another thin coat of glue on top. Repeat and layer until the jar  and legs are covered.
  9. When the glue is dry, poke a hole in the bottom of the jar. Swirl the pipe cleaner around your finger so it looks like a tail. Poke one end of the pipe cleaner into the hole.
