Canada Education Savings Grant

Human Resources and Social Development Canada pays a 20% Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) on the first $2,500 of all annual contributions made to eligible RESP.

These rates can increase based on income levels. The CESG rate is 40% if a child’s family has a net income of less than $37,178 annually and 30% if a child’s family has a net income over $37,178 but not greater than $74,357 annually. If a child’s family has a net income greater than $74,357 annually they will receive a 20% grant on the contribution. The annual net income of a child's family will typically be the same as the one that is used to determine eligibility for the Canada Child Tax Benefit.

The maximum CESG amount that can be contributed over the lifetime of the RESP is $7,200.

The RESP Calculator automatically calculates the amount of the CESG based on the information you provide.
