Canadian celebs’ baby names are out of this world, too!

Sarah mclachlan - baby names chosen by canadian celebs Sarah McLachlan 

Soulful singer Sarah McLachlan and ex-husband, drummer Ashwin Sood, welcomed their first daughter, India Ann, on April 6, 2002. Their second daughter, Taja Summer, arrived June 22, 2007. Originally from Nova Scotia, the Vancouver transplant has said she always knew she’d have a daughter named India. She hasn’t revealed how they came up with Taja. 

Mike myers - baby names chosen by canadian celebs Mike Myers 

Mike Myers has a mini-me! The Austin Powers star, originally from Scarborough, Ont., surprised his fans when he and wife Kelly Tisdale announced the birth of their first child, Spike, in September 2011. While no explanation was given for the interesting baby name, many speculate the Saturday Night Live alum named his son after the Spike and Mike’s Festival of Animation film series.

At 51, rocker Bryan Adams became a father for the first time. The “Summer of ‘69” singer and his personal assistant, Alicia Grimaldi, welcomed a daughter, Mirabella Bunny, on April 22, 2011. How did they come up with her interesting middle name? “She arrived like all good Easter bunnies on Easter weekend,” Adams says.

Canadian singer Shania Twain and ex-husband, rock producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, welcomed son Eja D’Angelo on August 12, 2001. The country superstar, originally from Timmins, Ont., has spoken out about how her son helped her move on from the devastation of her husband’s affair. Eja was named in tribute to her family’s Native Indian culture.

Juno Award-winner and Ottawa native Alanis Morissette and husband Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway welcomed their first child, Ever Imre, on Christmas Day, 2010. Ever is a Scottish boy’s name that means ‘strong’ while Imre is the middle name of Alanis’ twin brother, musician Wade Morissette. 

Celine dion - baby names chosen by canadian celebs Céline Dion 

Céline Dion and husband René Angelil welcomed twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, in October 2010. It took the French Canadian couple a few weeks (and a reported 15,000 names to consider) to name their miracle babies. Eddy was chosen after Eddy Marnay, who produced Céline’s first five records. “He was like a father to her,” says the singer’s rep. “Eddy is a major infl uence in both Céline and René’s lives.” Twin brother Nelson is named after Nelson Mandela, who the couple met while Céline was touring a couple of years ago. Their eldest son is named René-Charles.

Burnaby native Michael J. Fox and wife Tracy Pollan are parents to son Sam, 22, 16-year-old twins Schuyler and Aquinnah, and daughter Esmé, 10. Little did they know that a vampire novel (Twilight) would make their youngest daughter’s name a phenomenon!

Originally from Burnaby, B.C., Carrie-Anne Moss has opted to stay as private as possible in Tinseltown. The Matrix star chose not to announce her third pregnancy or her daughter’s birth. Carrie-Anne has revealed only that her older son is named Owen and that he was born at the end of 2003. Her youngest son is believed to be named either Jaden or Brooke and born in November 2005. The kids’ father is Carrie-Anne’s husband, fellow actor Steven Roy.

The reporter for CTV’s etalk wanted to pick names for her twins that would relate “if they were ever to become doctors or rock stars and everything in between!” She chose Phoenix Sky for her son because a “Phoenix is a mythical, sacred bird that has the ability to be reborn. I like what the name Sky represents to me spiritually.” Traci chose Phoebe Rose for her daughter. “My friend Michael King came up with Phoebe. It means bright and shining … and my Pheebs is both! I also like that it’s a Biblical name mentioned by the Apostle Paul in Roman 16:1. In Greek Mythology, Phoebe is one of the Titans!” Rose was chosen after her mother, Rosella.
