Book review: Cookbook for Weaners

For many parents, transitioning their baby to solid foods can be a
struggle. Cookbook for Weaners, by Melissa Gunning and Jennifer
House MSc, RD, takes the guesswork out of food prep for little ones.

Melissa is a mother of two and founder of Wean Green, the
Canadian company behind the eco-chic Wean Cube container. When
her children were ready for solid foods, Melissa realized she didn’t
know the best way to prepare the most basic foods. Even carrots were
a challenge.

The book’s 150 easy recipes, for babies six months and older, are
the culmination of her efforts. Melissa partnered with children’s
nutritionist, Jennifer House, who reviewed every recipe to ensure it
was being introduced at the right stage and in the right amounts.

“We want to introduce them to a variety of fl avours, colours and
nutrients,” Melissa says. “The range of foods in the cookbook allow
little weaners to develop nutritious eating habits.”

Like Wean Green’s other products, the cookbook encourages
healthy eating, and promotes organic and homemade food. The
recipes are also easy to make, requiring just pots, pans and a blender.
