There’s nothing sweeter than Canadian maple syrup. What better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than introducing kids to how this iconic Canadian treat is made. Maple syrup farms across the Eastern part of Canada (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) begin production in late February when daytime temperatures of +5° Celsius and night-time temps of -5° start the sap running through the trees, and end in early to mid-April. During this time, maple syrup farms are packed with family-friendly activities. Every weekend in March and the week of March Break, 1890’s costumed interpreters provide guided tours of Maple Lane, demonstrating how to tap maple trees, make maple syrup and maple sugar. Fulton’s Pancake House and Sugar Bush

Located 45 minutes west of Ottawa, this ober-150-year old family farm is beloved in Lanark County. Visitors feel part of the Fulton’s extended family as they tour the 400-acre forest by horse-drawn carriage and learn the history of maple syrup making. Family photos line the walls of the Pancake House and Sugar Shack where the family first began to boil maple syrup. Located a 25-minute drive south of Montreal, this sugar shack has three large eating areas with an extensive lunch and dinner menu where you can enjoy a traditional meal on wooden tables.
