Best place to feel like you’re in a much warmer country

Musician and Newfoundler Darren ‘Boobie’ Browne loves the beach in Burgeo, a small town on the island’s south coast. “A few summers back, I went for the first time with a friend. I’d heard the beach there would make Florida blush.” As they turned down the Caribou Trail off the Trans Canada Highway, the fog and heavy rain set in, turning the 150-kilometre trek into a four-hour crawl. “I was upset at the prospect of driving 900 kilometres from St. John’s and not even being able to see anything.” They finally arrived around 10 p.m., set up camp and spent the night hoping the fog would disappear. It did, indeed. Two sun-soaked, sand-filled, 33-degree days later they headed for home, delighted the rumours were indeed true. “Deadly b’y!”
