Nova Scotia, Mavillette Beach

Best place to take a long stroll and avoid a cold swim

Dale Schimpf, a software developer who’s lived here for more than 35 years, claims Mavillette Beach on the French Acadian southwest shore of Nova Scotia as his favourite. “It’s a huge beach with wonderful vistas. Lunch at the Cape View Restaurant affords a view of the entire length of the beach, which is roughly half a kilometre deep and two kilometres long, with high and rocky cliffs bookending it.” Because this beach is on the Bay of Fundy, the tide will rise, preventing the water from having any time to warm up (temperatures average between 11°C and 13°C). “So, unless you don’t mind really cold water swimming, this might not be the best beach for you.”
