For thousands of Canadian families each year, a critically ill child means moving from the support and comfort of their home to a city with a children’s hospital.
Many of those families find the support they need, as well as affordable accommodation, at one of Canada’s 14 Ronald McDonald Houses.
But it’s more than just a roof over their heads. RMH has qualified staff and dedicated volunteers who look after the daily tasks of running a home, so parents can focus on their child. There are other distractions, too, such as movie nights, education seminars and meditation workshops.
Some of the Houses also operate Ronald McDonald Family Rooms within partnering hospitals. There, the atmosphere of hectic and stressful hospital melts away, but parents can still be close at hand.
