These foods will help clean and protect your kid’s teeth

These foods will clean your kids teeth - these foods will help clean and protect your kid's teeth

No matter how diligent you are, everyone’s teeth will stain and have worn enamel over time. Dr. Adam Harwood, an endodontist in NYC, dishes on how what your kid eats, can help maintain healthy teeth.

Carrots, celery, broccoli and cauliflower
Dr. Harwood refers to these as ‘toothbrush foods’. Because of their texture, they are actually able to clean the surface of the teeth while being chewed. They won’t work against your enamel, either, thanks to their non-sugary and acidic makeup.

Strawberries
This one might surprise you. The natural astringent, called malic acid, found in these sweet berries actually helps to remove surface stains. Yes, you read that right: strawberries can help whiten your teeth.

Pineapple
More teeth whitening! The enzymes in raw pineapple have a whitening effect. For this one, though, you’ll need to apply the fruit directly to the teeth. It’s perfect for those kids who like to play with their food (aka EVERY kid).

Milk and cheese
We already know that calcium is the BFF of our teeth and bones, but the lactic acid found in a glass of milk or that yogurt cup helps to strengthen and whiten teeth. A milk protein called casein (found in cheese) has also been known to reduce the loss of minerals in teeth.
