Helping Your Children With Homework - Parents Canada

Kids doing homework - helping your children with homeworkClinical psychologist Dr. Kenneth Goldberg has come to the defence of kids who just can’t do their homework.

He says it’s not a behaviour or moral problem. It’s an educational block – and it’s not the child’s fault.

Between 10 and 25 percent of kids are homework-trapped so that, no matter how bright they are, they can’t do their homework. He wants parents and schools to:

  • identify ‘under the radar’
  • learning problems
  • stop focussing on what the child ‘should’ do
  • stop assuming that punishment or other consequences can change the behaviour.

If your child has a problem with getting homework done, check out: The Homework Trap, How to Save the Sanity of Parents, Students and Teachers, or visit thehomeworktrap.com.
