Horseshoe Resort a family hotspot

The long winter doesn’t show any signs of abating, which is good news for skiers and boarders. There’s still time to enjoy some snowy slopes this March Break. There are plenty of places to do a ski day trip around the GTA, but why not make a night of it?

Horseshoe Resort in Barrie has some great deals for families during March Break, including staying a fourth day for free. The Inn’s loft suites and deluxe rooms include fireplaces and the pool area is ideal for après-ski fun. Make an appointment in the Shizen Spa if you need a slightly more restorative activity!

But the true test – is the skiing up to snuff? Absolutely. Horseshoe boasts 25 runs (all open and in great condition this season), as well as five chair lifts. A couple of speedy quads keep the lift lines short. The layout of the runs also helps spread out the crowds, which is nice for families with younger children. Another bonus: Horseshoe is one of the few ski hills to offer night skiing, so your day need not end at 4 p.m.

If you’re new to skiing or boarding, no worries. There are daily lessons as well as a fantastic snow tubing park adjacent to the Inn. Horseshoe is also well known for its adaptive skiing program so everyone can get in on the slopeside action. Or try out cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on the resort’s 35 km of Nordic trails. All equipment rentals are available. March 15 catch the special Moonlight Ski event for cross-country skiers, a lantern-lit journey beneath the full moon.

Hungry? No need to head inside. Just outside the main lodge, grab a Baked Potato or a Beavertail to tide you over (try the cinnamon, sugar and lemon version). Hot chocolate is also available.
