The Daily Show’s Samantha Bee on raising Canadian kids in NYC

Toronto-born senior correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart  is married to fellow Canuck and correspondent Jason Jones. They have three kids and live in Manhattan.

“I feel like I spend a lot of my time buying things for my kids. Not just stuff, but programs. I think Canadians in general are a bit more careful about spending. We’re really looking forward to the day when all three kids are in the same school and we can stop paying for nursery school. One more year. I’m not saying that we’re excited for our youngest to grow up, because she’s adorable, but we’re so looking forward to the day when we can take some more adventurous family vacations. We just finally ditched the stroller and that was very freeing.”

“My parents have called me out for helicopter parenting, but that’s because they were like satellite parents in comparison. I don’t ever remember them playing with me. Maybe board games or cards, but never an afternoon spent cutting paper dolls. I spent a LOT of time by myself as a child and watched a LOT of TV. When I did an episode of Sesame Street, I was practically in tears the whole time to be “on the stoop” with Elmo. It didn’t really impress the kids.”
