The Kid Whisperer – Kids Describe Their Parents’ Jobs

Estimated Reading Time 3 Minutes

Do your children know what you do all day? Kids tell us about their parents' jobs.

“I’d like to do my dad’s job!
He builds things out of wood for people, like shelves. We have lots of wood all over the garage and sometimes he lets me help him work.”
WALTER D., 9

“I’d like to do the dad part of my dad’s job. He works but he’s a dad too. I don’t like the work part of his job, just the dad part.”
WILLIAM B., 6

“My mom takes care of us and my dad works for Audi. But I don’t want either of those jobs. I want to be a zookeeper!”
MADELEINE B., 6

“My mom and my dad are both teachers! My dad teaches kids with autism and my mom teaches
kids in grade 10, 11 and 9. I’d like to be a teacher too.”
LUCY Y., 6

“My mom does something with math and I hate math so I’d never like her job. My dad is an engineer, but not the train kind. I don’t think I’d do his job either.”
ANNIE B., 8

“My mom’s a teacher and my dad’s a garbage collector. But I don’t like either of those jobs. I want to be a police officer.”
ROWAN R., 6

“My mom and dad both work for Boston Pizza, but not at the same place. I’d like their jobs because it’s my favourite food!”
JOSEPH K., 6

“My mom has nothing for a job, but my dad has two jobs and one of them is carpets and one of them is that he works behind the scenes at concerts. I want to be what my mom wants to be, and that is a crossing guard, and also a mom.”
HAYLEY M., 6

“My dad works for IBM and my mom doesn’t work at anything.”

SPENCER L., 6

“I’d love to do my mom’s job! She does medical stuff but she’s not a doctor. Or a nurse. She’s just something in a hospital. And my dad is an engineer. Maybe I’d do his job, but he’s away a lot of the time because he has to tell people who work in different places what to do.”
ALIYAH M., 8

“My dad does cars. That’s really boring. I wouldn’t do that. And my mom is a nurse but I wouldn’t like that because it’s all bloody. I want to be an artist.”
ANNA S., 9

“I’d do my dad’s job for sure! He fixes things for people, like machines and stuff made out of wood. He knows how everything works and people are always bringing things over to our house so he can work on them.”
FREDERICK S., 9

“My mom doesn’t have a job. She just takes care of us, that’s all. My dad has a working job. He’s not a computer geek, though. I don’t want to do that. I want to be an undersea photographer.” GRACE T., 6

“My dad works in an office and my mom works at two jobs. But I want to build cars!”
DAVID C., 6

“I’d never do my dad’s job. He works all the time. I hardly ever see him! He should have a job where he gets to see us more often.”
MICHELLE S., 8

“My dad works for BMW and my mom works for Tabi. I want something different. I want to play in the NHL!”
