Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi says it’s important to respect our child’s opinion

Olympic figure skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi recently chatted with Celebrity Baby Scoop about her two daughters, Keara, 9, and Emma, 7, what her family was up to this summer and her plans for the upcoming Olympics.

Her daughters are going into the second and third grade.
“This summer wasn’t too busy with activities. One of my daughters is in a competitive hula dance performing arts group,” she says. “My younger daughter was involved in some sports camps and other fun activities to keep her busy this summer.” Her kids were excited to go back-to-school shopping and get ready for the new year, she adds.

Her best parenting advice is to respect your child’s opinion. “Explain your stance on whatever it is, especially if it involves his or her safety or anything like that,” she says.

Currently, Kristi is working on a women’s activewear line. She also continues to work with The Always Dream Foundation. She’s also excited about the upcoming winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. “I will most likely attend and work in some capacity, just like I did for the 2010 games in Vancouver,” she says. “I have a feeling that my husband will possibly work there in some capacity as well, either with the women’s hockey team or for some other hockey-related activity.”
