Some celebrate milestone birthdays with a trip or nice meal; Calgarian Sharon Hapton spent her 50th with 30 girlfriends at a soup-making party in her home. The simple gathering launched a nationwide initiative called Soup Sisters, which brings together groups of friends and co-workers to prepare pots of soup from scratch to pack up and deliver to women, children and youth in crisis in their communities.
Since March of 2009, over half a million servings of soup have been delivered to shelters from East to West, and there is a growing network of over 30,000 Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers participants across the country.
This fall, they’re releasing their third fundraising cookbook – a compilation of recipes contributed by Canadian kids. If you’re between the ages of 8-16, they want to hear from you!
